A reader questions why the House Ways and Means Committee voted to make six years of former President Donald Trump’s tax returns public.Re: “Latinas’ pay gap is 54 cents on the dollar,” Metro, Dec. 19:
The article continues: “However, the government data isn’t based on men and women doing the same jobs. Rather, it’s an average that widens or closes by factors such as race, job type and age. Research suggests women are overrepresented in jobs that tend to pay less, for a variety of reasons.”Comparing “average” wages for groups with different characteristics is lying with statistics. For example, men account for more than 90 percent of workplace deaths.
