Politics to blame for state of health-care Ever wonder how health care on P.E.I. got where it is now? Well, for those who are as old as I am, I bet you ...

Tobacco and drug usage is illegal in all public places in P.E.I. - ReutersEver wonder how health care on P.E.I. got where it is now? Well, for those who are as old as I am, I bet you give your head a shake and say what the heck happened? It was never like this 40 or 50 or 60 years ago. Back in the day, doctors even did house calls. Wow!

When Medicare was started, it was supposed to end all concerns about health care. Well, that turned out to be false. I believe that more than ever the reason health care is the way it is now is because of the power struggles and lack of communication between all the players in the game of health care.

What we hear the most is the blame game as to why things are so bad. Well, I believe that since the purse strings of health care are given to the political parties who are in power, they are the ones who deserve the lion's share of the blame. Political parties have all had health care in their platform to get votes. When these parties get elected, instead of working to fix the problem, they use the blame game. That's why things are where they are and nothing gets done.

This government has, under the leadership or lack thereof of Dennis King, the highest number of Islanders without a doctor; the highest shortage of doctors available; the highest number of ER closures ever; and the list goes on and on. Remember when King said that there will be five new medical homes staffed and running by March of 2022? Didn’t happen. What did King Denis say when challenged? He admitted that he didn’t know how to fix the situation.
