Our government says it wants a win from the renegotiation of Churchill Falls but it doesn’t appear it has set up the conditions for a win, writes Gabe Gregory of St. Phillip’s.

Currently, this enormous power generation is sold for one-fifth of a penny per kwh, generating little value for its owner, CFLco.

Our government has recently commenced negotiations with Quebec to renew the Churchill Falls contract. Quebec wants to renegotiate now because it is highly dependent on Churchill Falls power that it gets for a fraction of its real value. Our government says it wants a win from the renegotiation but it has not set any goals to measure a win. Nor does it appear that it has set up the conditions for a win.N.L.

In addition, Quebec is seeking to develop the Lower Churchill and secure much more power for its own use. Why is our government only negotiating such a large development with one prospective user?
