Tauseef Mustafa / AFPwrites in response to an opinion article written by Imraan Buccus on Kashmir, saying it was selective on facts, with Buccus blaming Kashmir’s woes on Hindu majority India.
Typically, selective about facts, Buccus continues to blame Kashmir’s woes on Hindu majority India. Yet many critics in Pakistan itself see blame more on the country's harbouring of terrorists than on India per se.
While Nawaz Shariff tried to investigate the military under General Pervez Musharraf, Sharif was kept out of his position by Musharraf staging a coup against him and sending thousands of his soldiers into Kargil, an indisputable part of Indian territory. Musharraf’s aim was to close the highway that provided goods and services to Jammu and Kashmir.
Two more incidents followed more recently under the elected terms of the Modi government. On 18 September 2016 four Jaish-e-Muhamad terrorists attacked an army base in Uri, situated in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. At least 19 Indian soldiers were killed, and more than 30 injured. There are separatist movements in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as well, and in Balochistan, the North-west Province and Sindh as well.
