When I read that Utah is flush with money from the federal government for infrastructure, I wonder: Aren’t we part of the infrastructure? We need some of those funds for our own individual efforts to battle water shortages. Metering is good, but a long way from implementation and enforcement.
Since our state has so much money, I am urging our state legislators, and the water districts to start thinking outside the box to help deal with the drought situation. How hard would it be to set aside some money to offer competitive contracts to the rock and gravel industry to help citizens replace their dead yards with something that doesn’t require any irrigation? Take some of the funds allocated for saving the Great Salt Lake and use it to maximize the water flow.
