Lesufi’s ambitious plan to tackle crime | It would see a massive fleet of personnel, vehicles and surveillance equipment on the streets – but this approach would also have huge financial implications

The department of community safety currently has an annual budget of about R500 million, but billions more would be needed for the plan to take off.

Part of Lesufi’s crime-fighting plan includes installing face recognition cameras on every street and one dedicated police vehicle to every ward.
