The council is to invite applications for a total of five concerts in 2024
There is a legal limit on the number of events that can be held at Ebrington Square in Derry, it has been revealed.
While the concerts ultimately went ahead at Ebrington in August following 'mediation' talks, the handling of concerts at the site has been drawn into question after it emerged no concerts are planned for 2024. It later emerged that a total of £280,000 was paid from the public purse to two event organisers and the hotel owners following what the Executive Office described as "mediation".
"The Executive Office have identified that there are currently legal restrictions on the site in relation to events including a limit on the number of events which can be held," the report stated.Sinn Fein councillor Christopher Jackson, who had proposed the original motion for the council to take over the running of events at the site, said: "This is a positive development. It's positive in terms of the outcomes.
