DETROIT — Sam Hentges is set to start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday when the Clippers host Syracuse at Huntington Park, according to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.
Prior to the injury, Hentges had appeared in 25 games for Cleveland, posting a 3.04 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings. He allowed a pair of earned runs and a walk on five hits in five outings from July 3-10.Cleveland relievers turned in another scoreless performance in Sunday’s win against the Phillies, logging 5 2/3 shutout innings after rookie Joey Cantillo exited in the fourth inning. Six Guardians relievers combined to allow just one Philly hit and two walks while striking out six.
Closer Emmanuel Clase is riding a 20-game streak of successful save conversions. Hunter Gaddis has the longest active scoreless streak among relievers at 20 2/3 innings. Gaddis has already tied Vinnie Pestano’s 2011 franchise record with 23 holds.
