Leeds Bradford Airport has confirmed it remains open and has issued a statement as bad weather hits the city.
Major weather warnings are in place for Leeds today as heavy snow is set to hit the city throughout the day. Flurries began on Wednesday afternoon, with the heaviest snow expected between 11am and 3pm on Thursday. As part of the new amber weather warning the Met Office put in place for Thursday and Friday, air travel is likely to be affected. Flights at Leeds Bradford Airport could face disruption as the snow gets heavier throughout the day.However, and departure and arrival flights are still going ahead. Passengers have been advised to keep checking the airport social media and airline websites for any new updates.
Amber and yellow warnings for snow and ice are in place for Leeds until 7am tomorrow, with 12-hours of heavy snow throughout today and Friday. Some departing flights have faced delays of up to an hour, no flights have faced major disruption or cancellation yet. The Met Office forecast for Thursday says: "Cloudy with occasional rain across southern England, rain spreading north and turning to snow across a central swathe of the UK. Much of Scotland brighter, snow showers far north."
