It’s a by-product of confinement, an unavoidable and perhaps dubious benefit for those living in tight spaces. I know how fortunate I am to have a room to spare—and acknowledging one’s good fortune during these times of extreme hardship has never been more important. It’s also important to remember that essential workers don’t have the luxury of staying home.working from home—are there some positives? It’s a question I’ve been thinking about quite a bit and I’m sure you have too.
But some benefits of confinement are starting to sink in too. There is the saved time and money from the lack of commuting. There is the freedom to accomplish tasks on one’s own timetable. There are no work trips on the calendar, no events to attend, so much less to-ing and fro-ing and running from one appointment to another. Instead of all of that, there is time—time as never before.And with that time people seem to be reconsidering things.
Many of us are noticing the changing seasons in ways we wouldn’t have before. Take my son-in-law, Francesco, a filmmaker who used to travel relentlessly for work.
