Given Wrexham's time in non-league in this millennium, while Birmingham City were spending seven seasons in the Premier League, it is easy to forget that the two clubs have had their respective ups and downs before. Blues had four seasons in English football's third tier between 1989 and 1995, while Wrexham were a second-tier team from 1978 to 1982, playing host to league games against the likes of Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle.
