OAKLAND — A federal judge has sentenced the leader of an organization that trafficked fentanyl in the East Bay to 10 years in prison, authorities said.

Javier Castro, 41, oversaw the organization that conspired with others to distribute more than 22 pounds of fentanyl, Stephanie Hinds, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, said in a statement. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of the drug.The drug trafficking organization that Castro led distributed the addictive opiate from a residence in San Leandro and another in Oakland, Hinds said.

Castro in his plea, admitted that he and the two others fulfilled more than 100 orders for fentanyl between April 21, 2021, and May 19, 2021, Hinds said.
