After 12 days of protests, Puerto Rican Governor Ricardo Rosselló has announced that he will be stepping down.
“Our people did not give up, and we triumphed,” expressed Luis Fonsi on Twitter. “We are all ready for a new beginning, more united than ever. THIS IS HOW WE DO IT DOWN IN PUERTO RICO!!!”
Rossello’s resignation comes after a private group chat between Rosselló and several associates in his executive team was published earlier this month, revealing nearly 900 pages of leaked text messages that contained misogynistic and homophobic language when referring to opposition leaders, public figures, and journalists. The document also showcased strategies in efforts to manipulate different situations from late 2018 to January 2019.
