The latest Netball World Cup 2023 legacy mural was unveiled this week, adorning the wall of the Wesfleur Sports Complex. This is the sixth mural commissioned by the City of Cape Town in the buildup to July’s World Netball Cup.
Unveiled by Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, the newest mural in the Netball World Cup 2023 legacy programme has been painted on the wall of the swimming pool at the sports complex in Atlantis.The Netball World Cup artworks have previously been unveiled in Langa, Khayelitsha, Strand, Bellville South and Mitchells Plain.
The sports complex serves as the home base for the Atlantis Netball Association, which has centralised all of its league matches at the facility due to its accessibility and proximity to the MyCiTi bus route.“Atlantis has a huge netball community and has developed a number of netball players who have earned Western Province colours,” said Alderman JP Smith.
He continued, “The Wesfleur Sports Complex becomes a hive of activity, especially during the netball season. This Netball World Cup is about ensuring that communities like Atlantis, which has a special relationship with netball, get to benefit from the legacy of the international tournament.
In addition to the mural, Wesfleur Sports Complex will get improvements to its facilities, such as the resurfacing of netball courts and improvements to the bathrooms.
