6-ALARM FIRE: A fire has been reported at a hospital in Brockton and evacuations are reportedly underway.
The fire department said just before 9:30 a.m. that the fire had been knocked down and no one was injured. Evacuations are ongoing. About 120 patients are expected to be evacuated, as power to the hospital had to be shut down due to the fire, which fire officials said appears to have started in a transformer in the basement. There is currently no timeline for getting power restored to the hospital.Sign up for NECN newsletters.
"This is a serious situation," Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan said. But he said he is confident that all the patients will be taken care of. Chief Nardelli has ordered a 6th alarm for a fire in the Brockton Hospital. Fire is knocked down. In addition to Brockton Fire resources we have requested mutual aid assistance. No injuries. Beginning evacuations of the hospital.
