Back in 2020, Lucasfilm announced an official Lando TV show was in development. There was then silence - until July 18, 2023, when writer Justin Simien explained in an interview that the project was on pause because of schedule.
Simien chose to rein in any frustration, however, focusing on the Glovers themselves - and Donald Glover in particular. "Donald is a national treasure," he wrote. "Glad he and Stephen get to carry the character forward their way. Can't wait to see. Rooting for everybody Black." This attitude may well explain why the comments have become difficult to source; Simien may well have had second thoughts about making the comments publicly.
To be fair to Lucasfilm, it is possible the studio didn't plan news to break in this way. The news was first dropped by scoopers and then confirmed by trades after it had been released; it's quite likely Lucasfilm intended to remain silent about Lando until after the current strikes have come to an end. Even in this scenario, though, Lucasfilm should have prioritized contacting Simien to tell him what was going on. Anything else would frankly be inexcusable.
