Searching a Manitoba landfill for the remains of two women could take years, cost hundreds of millions and has no guarantee of success.
According to reports, police found blood in Brettell’s apartment and concluded that he was the victim of a homicide, despite the fact they could not find any of his remains, but they suspected his remains could be in the Green Lane Landfill.
Here in Manitoba, Premier Heather Stefanson announced last week that the province would offer no support to efforts to have the Prairie Green Landfill searched for the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran, despite the fact that Winnipeg Police officials have said they believe the remains of both women are somewhere in the landfill north of Winnipeg.
The report also outlines serious health and safety risks to those who would conduct the search, as searchers could be exposed to carbon monoxide, methane and hydrogen sulfide, which are all byproducts of decomposition, and it recommends that hazardous materials teams be onsite at all times to monitor air quality, and to perform decontamination of searchers if necessary.
