Lancashire couple's bemusement as Keir Starmer shows up on their Ring doorbell joking he was their new neighbour
When Ryan Barker booked a week off work to sort his garden out, he couldn't have guessed how it would pan out.
Just hours earlier, lorry driver Ryan and care worker Catherine had had no idea of what was to come. During the morning, they were selected for a visit from the Labour leaders as part of the opposition's pitch as the party to fix the mortgage crisis.Catherine and Ryan bought their home last year, just before the mortgage market descended into chaos during Liz Truss' short time as Prime Minister.
"She said 'there's some councillors coming, can you talk to them?'. We've been doing the garden and the house was a mess so I was like, 'Ryan, we need to sort the house!'. It was only about half an hour before they said it was Keir Starmer coming." As the politicians walked in, Starmer joked they were there because they were the new neighbours, a remark which received a very generous laugh from the assembled staffers. The moment was captured on the home's Ring doorbell camera and had been played back very soon after the politicians and cameras had left.
