A suspect in southeast Colorado shot three people — killing two — and then died by suicide after a police chase Saturday, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The triple shooting happened at the Lamar Apartments in the 700 block of Mullen Street just before 2 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from CBI. Three people were shot; two died at the scene. A sole survivor was taken to a hospital for treatment, and her condition was unknown Sunday morning.
CBI spokeswoman Susan Medina on Sunday did not know the ages of those shot; two victims were female and one male. She also did not know the age of the male suspect and could not say whether the suspect knew the victims before the attack or what might have motivated the shooting. After the shooting, a Granada police officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle and chased the suspect with multiple other officers as the suspect drove into eastern Prowers County, according to CBI. Officers with the neighboring Hamilton County Sheriff’s office in Kansas came into Colorado and put out stop sticks to try to stop the vehicle.
That attempt was unsuccessful and the suspect kept driving until he stopped in a field in Holly, where he left the vehicle and shot himself, according to CBI, who said no officers fired any shots.
