The New York state lake-effect storm has moved in to Ontario with winds pushing snow squalls into the southern Niagara region. Environment Canada issued a weather warning for Saturday morning for Niagara Falls, Welland and St. Catharines.

Intense periods of heavy snow will pound the area throughout the day, with weather patterns changing swiftly from clear skies to snowfall within a few kilometres. “We are going to have a cold front cut through the region tonight, and as it does so, it will push the storm northwest,” Rousseau said.is urging drivers to stay off the roads, recommending they refrain from any non-essential travel, as visibility is reduced to nearly zero in the Niagara region.
Sgt. Zenga said on Twitter that the OPP had been “inundated” with reports of vehicles in ditches and collisions on the highway. The GTA isn’t forecast to expect heavy snow until later tonight, as a cold front will bring lake-effect squalls into the region.
