The fan-favorite midfielder, sent to New England for $400K in GAM, was LAFC’s second selection of the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft
The Los Angeles Football Club traded midfielder Latif Blessing to the New England Revolution on Tuesday.
Exchanging Blessing for $400,000 in general allocation money in 2023, with an additional $300,000 if certain conditions are met, was a “very difficult decision for us,” said LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington, who called the transaction “bittersweet.” En route to winning the MLS Cup, however, Blessing did not see the field during three knockout playoff contests.
Buik, a 20-year-old Croatian forward, signed a four-year deal in December as part of Major League Soccer’s U22 Initiative. He represents the most attacking-minded signing of this type for LAFC.
