Keir Starmer's government would start discussions 'in earnest' with other countries, following a decision by Ireland, Spain and Norway to recognise the state of Palestine
At the 2 May local and mayoral elections, Labour’s vote fell in some wards with high Muslim representation and Starmer said he would listen to voters’ concerns about the war. “And what we’ve always said is that we want to work with international partners to recognise Palestine by a wider coalition of like-minded countries that would, in our view, carry greater diplomatic and political weight and have a better chance of making a meaningful contribution to the goal of a two state solution.
