Scottish Labour, which voted to amend the legislation before ultimately supporting it, would change the law to include misogyny

.

Critics of the law have argued the new Hate Crime and Public Order Act could impinge on free speech. It comes after author JK Rowling, who is a critic of the law, challenged police to arrest her for comments she made on Twitter/X in which she described a number of transgender people as men. “We want proper enforcement of the anti-hate crime laws that are there and make sure that the right penalties are in place to protect people.”

If elected first minister, Mr Sarwar would amend the legislation to include this and look again at the implementation, amid concerns police officers are not being adequately equipped to implement the laws.
