A perfect storm of national and international events have all placed unprecedented pressure on Canada’s agriculture workforce.

As we near the three-year anniversary of the declaration of a global pandemic, never has our agriculture sector faced such a challenge, coupled with such opportunity. A perfect storm of national and international events, including border closures, workplace restrictions, labour shortages and global conflict have all placed unprecedented pressure on Canada’s agriculture workforce.
To address this challenge, a coalition of partners, including members of the agriculture sector, began working on a National Workforce Strategic Plan for Agriculture and Food and Beverage Manufacturing to achieve workforce stability by 2030. More than 100 stakeholders, including primary producers, food and beverage manufacturers, educational institutions, industry, and government are working together to come up with an action plan to address labour challenges.
