Blair McDougall said there was no difference in stance despite Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar wanted to scrap the cap and Prime Minister Keir Starmer refusing to do so.
A Labour MP has claimed that the UK and Scottish parties have an "absolutely identical" position on the two-child benefit cap.
The benefits cap, announced by George Osborne when he was Chancellor a decade go, limits Universal Credit and child tax credits to the first two children. An SNP amendment to the King's Speech attempting to remove the cap failed to pass in the House of Commons on Tuesday evening.

The last Labour Government did a huge amount with tax credits which lifted people out of poverty.
