Patrick Hurley elected as the new MP as Tory Damien Moore loses out
The Labour Party has won the Southport Parliamentary seat for the first time in history - putting the party on course for a clean sweep of Merseyside seats.
The Southport result marks a moment in history. The constituency has never been held by Labour since its inception in 1885. It has always been won by either the Tories, the Liberal Democrats or the Liberal Party. Verification of the vote in Southport was announced a short time later with the returning officer confirming a 61.3% turnout in Southport - a fall of 6.7% since 2019 - and 45,186 votes cast. Although a comprehensive list of results has yet to be confirmed, early indications point to a landslide Labour victory with the party predicted to win 410 parliamentary seats - a majority of 209.
