Tory David Jones came in second with 3,218 votes, just 117 ahead of Reform UK’s Mark Butcher.
Labour has won the Blackpool South parliamentary by-election and made gains in council contests to heap pressure on Rishi Sunak.
"They have lost trust in the British people and Blackpool have had enough of this failed government - they've crashed the economy, destroyed our public services and put up taxes. The by-election was called after Mr Benton, who won the seat at the 2019 General Election with a majority of 3,690, resigned from his post while waiting for the result of a recall petition. He lost the Conservative whip after he was suspended from Parliament for breaching lobbying rules earlier this year.
The 26.33 per cent vote swing was the third biggest from the Conservatives to Labour at a by-election since the Second World War.
