This big chunk of money for L.A. is part of a bigger package of reimbursements – $300M – finally coming to L.A. area.

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, they, along with a delegation of city councilmembers that traveled to Sacramento to meet with Gov. Newsom and other state officials, announced that the city would receive nearly $60 million in expedited FEMA reimbursement for COVID-related expenses.
Bass, in a phone interview with this newspaper shortly after her announcement, said that heading into the trip, L.A. officials did not know if the big chunk of money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency “It was definitely still up in the air,” she said. “We certainly knew we were contending for it, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to get it, especially in these tough economic times.”
On Tuesday, City Council President Paul Krekorian thanked the governor for making sure L.A. got “its share of federal funds.” Bass, en route back to L.A., said during the phone interview that the delegation “absolutely accomplished” its goals.
