The James Beard Foundation on Wednesday, March 29 announced the 2023 nominees for its upcoming James Beard Foundation Awards later this summer.
Niki Nakayama, chef and owner of two-Michelin star L.A. restaurant n/naka, was nominated for Outstanding Chef, a nationwide category. Chef Gilberto Cetina Jr. of Holbox and Chef Brandon Hayato Go of Hayato in Los Angeles and Chef Justin Pichetrungsi of Anajak Thai in Sherman Oaks were among the five chefs nominated for the Best Chef: California category, which was dominated by Southern California chefs. The other chefs nominated include Chefs Kyle and Katina Connaughton of SingleThread in Healdsburg and Carlos Salgado, chef and owner of one-Michelin star Costa Mesa restaurant Taco María.
