The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is taking a hardline stance against corruption, suspending officials and implementing disciplinary actions.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has vowed to take stringent action against anyone found guilty of fraud and corruption within its ranks. KZN MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Martin Meyer, stated unequivocally that he would not tolerate corruption, which is estimated to be costing the department billions of rand. Meyer's commitment to rooting out corruption comes on the heels of several high-profile cases within the department.

In October of last year, three officials were suspended as part of an investigation into a multi-million rand contract. Earlier this year, the department dismissed its supply chain management director, Musa Zondi, due to allegations of corruption exceeding a billion rand. The department has made significant strides in addressing corruption, implementing the recommendations from ten forensic investigations conducted by the Office of the Premier. Consequently, 35 disciplinary actions have been taken, encompassing written warnings to suspensions without pay. Four disciplinary matters are currently ongoing, and six additional forensic investigations are underway under the Office of the Premier. Meyer emphasized that the fight against corruption is a top priority for the department, and anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law
