Gabadinho Mhango, Dumisani Zuma, Veluyeke Zulu, trialist Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Mxolisi Kunene started for Usuthu, whilst Mfundo Thikazi, Shadrack Kobedi and Andre De Jong set out AM’s line-up.
Royal AM began to take a grip on matters in the middle of the first half and runs in behind from Thikazi and De Jong caused the Usuthu back-line a lot of worries. Usuthu finally cracked on the cusp of halftime after Lesego Manganyi thumped home a loose attempt from De Jong following a pin-point corner from Thikazi.AmaZulu looked to carve out a way back following a disjointed first period and went close when Mhango’s free-kick from a promising position moments gone narrowly missed target.
The initiative reaped rewards with about 20 minutes to go as Kwem attacked the near post in the area and headed home a well-weighted corner.
