Seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady has joked he would 'not be around tonight' if he announced another return to the NFL, and insisted he is only allowed to un-retire from the game once.

JON JOHNSON It’s certainly a different role Rev. Kyle Gatlin serves as a head referee on football Friday nights as opposed to preaching in front of the congregation as senior pastor of Covenant Methodist Church in Dothan on Sunday mornings.“It’s about leadership, it’s about encouraging, it’s about teaching … it’s all that stuff,” Gatlin said of being a lead official.

“Different type of people that I got to hang around that was totally opposite of what I was doing Sunday through Thursday,” Gatlin said of the allure. “The senior pastor did most of the preaching and I did a lot of the pastoral care back then and stuff … all I saw was people from our church, and I was always around people from our church.”“They acted just like themselves, which is what I wanted, and they still do,” Gatlin said.

“They put me as head linesman, so I was on the visitor sideline at Houston County near the very end of the season,” Gatlin recalled. “Probably about a minute and a half to go in the game, a play came to my side and I did like I was supposed to … I let the play go ahead … but then I trailed it a little too close and another guy got blocked into me.

He transitioned into the role as what’s known as a white cap official in 2016, which translates into being the crew chief on the field. The week can also include watching game film of whatever teams the crew may be officiating, such as the game earlier this season at Rip Hewes Stadium when Dothan hosted Auburn in an important Class 7A showdown.

“I dealt with it more when I was a linesman because they were in my ear the whole time,” Gatlin said. “If they call a timeout, that’s the only way they get to talk to me .
