SANParks Rangers have paid tribute to Ben, the K9 patroller who died this weekend after being attacked by a crocodile in the park. Ben was conducting an exercise with his handler, which he had partnered with for eight years when he was attacked while quenching his thirst at a riverbank. While nearby rangers made various attempts to save the animal, their efforts were futile, and Ben lost his life from the injuries.
” "His legacy in safeguarding our wildlife will be remembered, and his absence will be felt deeply. Our sincere condolences go to the handler, the team, and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside Ben." Ben was a committed supporter of SANParks' anti-poaching initiatives. According to The Citizen, team members who have worked with Ben rate him as one of the finest at tracking poachers.
