TRURO, N.S. — For the last 15 years, the Knights of Columbus Truro branch has offered an annual donation of 50 coats to the Colchester Food Bank as a part ...
Now, with more and more people needing assistance from the food bank, the fraternity has decided to double its donation.
“The food bank is fully aware of the kids and the parents who are in need, and they have a process of who comes here and who needs it.” “The Knights of Columbus look after us well,” said DeViller. “Not only do they bring us the coats, they also have the food bank garden in Old Barns. This year alone they brought in over 14,000 pounds of food.”
“With Fiona and COVID, and the way the job market and the way inflation is, there is a high need in our community,” Kennedy explained. “Our Knights of Columbus realizes that need, and we want to make sure that people are helped in their time of need.” “We have an increase in the amount of new people requiring the services of the food bank,” said DeViller. “We’re looking at people who now have double incomes in their families, or professional jobs, where you think maybe that they’d be able to support themselves, but with the inflation we have now, people are struggling to make ends meet.”
