Video footage of the brutal assault surfaced on social media, showing a man in a black shirt punching two people in the parking lot of the Doringkruin shopping centre.
In a bizarre twist, after landing the punches, the man in the black shirt seemingly attempted to assist those he had knocked out, to the protest of bystanders.One of the victims of the assault was admitted to hospital with"severe brain injuries," according to police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh.
"Klerksdorp police are investigating a case of attempted murder," Myburgh told News24, confirming that the assault took place on Sunday, just after 13:00."I can also confirm that the suspect is known to the police and that an arrest is expected soon."
