With three regular-season games left, the Kings need to shake a two-game skid if they want home-ice advantage in a first-round playoff series
The Kings have been the West’s best team at home this season, but if they want a gathering on Chick Hearn Court for Game 1 and a potential Game 7 of the first round, they’ll need a victory Saturday at Crypto.com Arena.
After the defeat in Vegas, Coach Todd McLellan acknowledged that his team was “not ready to play” in what he characterized as a “team loss” that was unacceptable at this critical juncture of the campaign. Still, the message from McLellan, as well as team captain Anze Kopitar and trade deadline pickup Vladislav Gavrikov, was to turn the page.Yet neither the Vegas belly flop nor the pair of more competitive dives against Edmonton transpired in isolation.
Meanwhile, their most likely first-round opponent has trended upward. Since they last lost to the Kings, the Oilers compiled a 10-2-3 record against playoff-bound adversaries, meaning they faced top competition more frequently and still produced considerably better results against it.
