Bold new biopic captures the struggles of King Charles on his journey to the throne
A landmark new film which charts King Charles’ life from birth to becoming Britain’s 40th monarch will be released this month.
Every up and down, every joy and heartbreak of her life has been documented for the public to salaciously devour, but the film celebrates the fact that she slowly became “more and more popular every day.” This was hugely impacted by the death of The Queen Mother, royal author Angela Levin points out.
“Camilla started doing charitable work. First of all with osteoporosis, which her mother died from. She suddenly felt that she could dutifully help others and began to work harder for the family and never complained. "Once they’d really got used to that they then wanted him to get married quickly because they come from the old school way of thinking where you don’t live with somebody, you marry them. And so that then led to Charles asking for Camilla’s hand in marriage.”
Gristwood adds, “Looking back to the fifties, the sixties, no one could have guessed what training a 21st century monarch would need. But it's to Charles's credit that he's managed to make himself more in tune with a lot of current concerns - the environment being a striking example. While viewers will marvel at the King’s remarkable journey, his record-breaking period spent as the Prince of Wales and his famous love story with Queen Camilla, it is made unmistakable throughout that both the King and the Queen have had to overcome challenges to get to where they are now - be it a series of scandals or widespread public disapproval.
