Fans of KFC in Lesotho have taken to social media expressing their misery without their favourite fried chicken due to bird flu in SA.
The avian flu outbreak which has crippled South Africa’s poultry industry has caused fast-food giant KFC in Lesotho to temporarily close its doors.Food quality and safety remain our number one priority. We can confirm that KFC Lesotho currently procures its poultry products from certified AI free farms in South Africa. The international fast food chain as assured its customers in the Mountain Kingdom that it procures its chicken from farms not affected by the bird flu.
The current outbreak has largely affected farms in Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and KwaZulu-Natal, sleading to the culling for more than seven million egg-laying hens.This has also led to a severe shortage of eggs, which, upon its return to supermarket shelves doubled in price, with retailers placing limits on the amount of eggs each customer can buy.
