Millions of women are waiting for possible compensation of £3,000 over state pension age changes and campaigners are demanding the government submit formal proposals
A cross-party group of MPs has today written to Penny Mordaunt and Mel Stride to demand formal proposals to provide compensation to women who missed out due to changes to the state pension age. The group also asked the Leader of the House of Commons and the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to give Parliament a vote quickly on what should happen over the Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign.
“The report made clear recommendations to the Department for Work and Pensions, asking ministers to apologise for their failures and to swiftly compensate the 3.6 million women affected by bringing proposals to the House for consideration by Members. In the weeks since, more than 200,000 people have signed an open letter to the Leader of the House, asking for an urgent debate and vote on the Government’s proposals, alongside any alternative proposals from Members.
Conservative former minister John Penrose previously said “speed is vital” in the Government’s response.
