Husband and wife team retiring from service leads to closure of one of Regional District of Okanagan\u002DSimilkameen\u0027s four teams
According to the British Columbia Search and Rescue Association, husband and wife Rose Koehler and Darrell Taylor – who were instrumental in the 2009 restart of the Keremeos Search and Rescue operation – were the last remaining volunteers in the team and had decided to retire.
Until now, there were four teams operating in the Okanagan-Similkameen area – Keremeos, Penticton, Oliver/Osoyoos and Princeton. She said the decision to close the operation was “gut wrenching” but that other SAR teams were within 10 minutes of Keremeos. Keremeos does have an RCMP detachment, volunteer fire bridge and a volunteer-run Emergency Support Service to help anyone who has been evacuated due to flood or fire.
