In the western city of Kisumu, an Odinga stronghold, police fired barrages of teargas at protesters who had started fires in the road, footage on Citizen TV showed.

Odinga told his supporters that they will proceed to State House. The Azimo Coalition leader made the announcement on March 19, hours after he said during a media interview plans to storm State House had been shelved. Kisumu remains deserted as traders heeded Odinga's 'public holiday' call despite the government terming the call unconstitutional.
