“I never brought it during the regular season,” he said, cigar in hand outside Denver’s locker room party late Monday night. “But it was something that just started in the playoffs. I feel like it was motivation for me and my teammates.” When Caldwell-Pope brought the ring for Games 1 and 2 vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves, there was at least one instance of teammates passing it around. Some players, like Porter during the Finals, wanted to feel the diamonds on their finger. Others simply admired it. Nikola Jokic never tried it on, Caldwell-Pope said — “he just looked at it. He can wear his own now.” And 34-year-old journeyman Ish Smith wanted to wait to receive his own.
