The former Ibrox striker wrote about his admiration for the Belgian in his latest Sunday Mail column.
I want to talk about Philippe Clement, the MAN. And right now, even just a few weeks into his reign as Ibrox gaffer, I’ve been so impressed by how the Belgian has carried himself. He’s displayed an image befitting a Rangers manager and one I’d expect from anyone in that job.
Things are far from perfect within the squad he’s inherited. And the team is nowhere near where he wants them to be yet. But even with his side five points behind in the title race, nothing seems to be affecting him negatively. Dare I say it, but it reminds me of when Ange Postecoglou arrived at Celtic.
That’s invaluable and Clement needs that at Rangers, too. Especially at a club where there’s so much pressure to win. I know it’s still early days for him at Ibrox. But I’m not sure that he’s put a foot wrong since replacing Michael Beale. He’s got a presence about him. When the media boys turn up at press conferences, there’s a wee bit of trepidation now.
So there will be no surprises for Clement at Hampden against Hearts – even though it’s his first visit to the national stadium. There can be no excuses. He has to deliver and reach the final. Rangers must lift that trophy in December. What a chance it is for Clement to put the first bit of silverware in the cabinet before the New Year.
