Kenny Kunene , the City of Johannesburg MMC for Transport, has announced a R100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the murders of two Rea Vaya bus drivers. The tragic incidents occurred on Monday, February 3, in Soweto . One driver was fatally shot in Mapetla while stopping at a traffic light, and the other was killed in Protea Glen.

As a result of these attacks, bus services in Soweto have been temporarily suspended, and passengers are advised to utilize alternative public transportation options. Kunene expressed profound shock and condemnation regarding the killings, denouncing the act as barbaric and a direct challenge to the government and the people of Soweto. He offered his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims, emphasizing the devastating impact this has had on the community. 'Women are now widows, children are orphans. Fathers, brothers, grandfathers have been taken away from their families,' he lamented. 'I pray and plead with you to assist the police in finding these barbarians who have killed our people, who caused trauma throughout Soweto and throughout the Rea Vaya community.' While a police investigation is underway, Kunene urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the apprehension of the perpetrators. He personally pledged a reward of R100,000 to anyone who provides crucial assistance in the arrest of the suspects. 'It is the money that I am committing as Kenny Kunene to show the commitment that I have in making sure that these barbarians are brought to book, I will not wait for the case to be finalized,' he stated. 'Once the police have confirmed that indeed they have evidence linking those that have been arrested to this barbaric act, I will make R100,000 available to whoever assisted the police,' he added. The South African Police Service confirmed to IOL News that they are investigating two murder cases following the shootings of the bus drivers. The motive behind the attacks remains unclear, and police investigations are ongoing
