, when people shamed her for having acne. The negative comments, she said, were a shock to her since she felt so good about herself at the actual show. However, the model also received a slew of supportive tweets from fans also dealing with acne, expressed that they were inspired by her confidence.
Although Kendall felt confident even when she had acne, she said she still wanted it gone, so she turned to Proactiv, calling its products "magic." Now as the brand’s spokesperson, Kendall, who first dealt with acne when she was a teenager and says it “sucks”, believes her partnership with the brand is the perfect opportunity for her to be “vulnerable” and show people that they can still feel good about themselves even when they deal with acne.
I had somewhat of a normal experience in high school but I started breaking out when I was about 14. 14 to 18 are kind of your pinnacle growth years and it was a really rough thing to deal with and not have any friends or siblings that dealt with the same thing. [My skin] was clear for five years but when [my acne] came back, when I was about 21 going into 22, it brought all of these emotions back, and I thought, ‘oh my god, I forgot what it felt like to have to go through this.
So when Proactiv reached out, I was like, you know what? I'm going to take this opportunity to be vulnerable and I know what it feels like to be that young girl in high school who just wants people to accept them and feel good about themselves. That was the biggest thing for me to put myself out there to be like, ‘Hey, I'm human too.’I mean it's definitely not a fun [experience], like no one wants pimples on their face. So there was that side of it.
