BREAKING: Sir Keir Starmer has published his tax returns, a day after Rishi Sunak did the same. It shows he made capital gains of £85,466 in the financial year 2021/22, compared with nearly £1.6 million made by his Conservative counterpart.
This morning, Huffington Post UK revealed Sir Keir was expected to also publish his tax returns.
Answering questions after giving a speech in Stoke-on-Trent, the Labour leader had said: ‘Let me deal with the question on my tax returns.‘I hope to be able to do that later on today, so that’s very straightforward.’ Sir Keir did not directly answer a question on whether the capital gains tax rate should be reformed.
But he did say: ‘I’m glad the Prime Minister has published his tax returns, I think that’s the right thing to do.Mr Sunak’s financial affairs had been under intense scrutiny after it was revealed that his wife, heiress Akshata Murthy, held special non-dom status which allowed her to avoid paying tax on her immense wealth, derived from her billionaire father’s Indian firm, Infosys.
