The Good Morning Britain broadcaster has shared the reason why Derek wanted to complete the third documentary on his health battle
Kate Garraway has revealed Derek Draper's inspiring last message ahead of a documentary charting the final year of his life.
A third documentary, Kate Garraway: Derek's Story, will air next week and provides an insight into the former political lobbyist's personal struggles with illness and highlights the challenges faced by millions of people in the UK living with serious illness and disability. Kate has revealed why she wanted to complete the film after his death.
Kate explained she initially did not intend to do a third documentary and the idea came from Derek. She said: "Derek was determined to keep on getting better and improving. "Were you thinking that you would like to?’. And he said firmly “ yes” . I said, ‘Well, if we do, I think we should work on it together and it should be your story, told in your voice.’ Derek got very emotional at the idea, because his words and speech were so limited and there were so many things he wanted to say about the struggle we were all having as a family and he wanted to speak up about it.
