ITV drama Karen Pirie was put under pressure to find the killer of Rosie Duff, who was murdered on school campus. But who committed the crime?

follows young police detective Karen’s investigation into the cold case murder of Rosie Duff, who was found stabbed and left for dead in the grounds of St Andrews’ cathedral in 1996.

New evidence comes to light that puts Alex under suspicion once more – after Karen’s partner Mint found Rosie’s cardigan from the night of the murder hidden in storage, it was analysed, revealing that semen with Alex’s DNA was found on the sleeve. So much for Alex saying he didn’t know Rosie very well.New dad Alex is taken into custody and quizzed by Karen. He initially denies he was in a relationship with Rosie, but then admits he was seeing her in secret and only Ziggy knew.

Before we have time to process what Lawson may or may not have been up to – was he covering for someone back in 1996? – the action moves to Alex, who gets up in the night and takes his crying newborn baby out for a drive in the car. While Mint and Karen set off to Lawson’s favourite fishing spot, Loch Leven, in the hope he may still own the caravan and keep it there, Alex’s wife Lynn wakes up and realises neither her husband nor baby are home. She phones the police, and they find Alex’s car, and Alex lying – barely alive – beside it. But where’s the baby?
