The event was titledbecause according to Civil, “it’s about the women in sports who currently changing the game, setting the plays and creating new narratives.dinner was hosted at the quaint but swanky The Garden restaurant in the heart of South Beach.

Karen Civil, a known entrepreneur, digital marketing strategist, and entertainment renaissance woman is no stranger to creating her own unique lane.

This kind of dinner is really important because it allows other women in sports to create the narrative of what goes on in the background. We’re able to share stories about some of our experiences. It’s really an opportunity for us to network with people who look exactly like us. As many people know, in the NFL it is a male dominated industry so we don’t get to see many women. It’s really imperative that we have these times to come back and debrief with one another.

We’re at the Super Bowl! People are like you’re doing a women’s dinner? I said yes! Do you know how many female agents are here? Do you know how many different reporters and athletes are women? Stop acting like we don’t exist in these spaces. We are here. I am a woman who knows what it’s like to be the only one in the room. I no longer want us to be minorities, not just for women of color but for all women. It’s just about us changing that narrative and realizing that we’re here and we exist and these companies realizing that too and championing us as well, like the way we champion one another. The NFL is taking the right steps by doing events like this and by celebrating women. They have a clear understanding that these events are impactful.
