With the election to decide the next mayor of Los Angeles less than three weeks away, and with both candidates in ato win, according to a recent Southern California News Group poll of likely voters, U.S. Rep. Karen Bass and developer Rick Caruso went on the attack Thursday, Oct. 20, with both campaigns calling on the other to answer for their roles in two separate USC scandals.
But his opponent in the mayoral election has been calling for him to release a report with findings from a law firm that the university tapped to investigate the Tyndall situation. Caruso told reporters in 2018 and 2019 that he would make those findings public but hasn’t. “We talked to experts – many of them – that said releasing any information is just going to cause more horrific pain to those that have been terribly, terribly wounded,” Caruso said during the debate. “So we chose not to do it for that reason.”Los Angeles Mayoral candidate Rick Caruso during a meeting with political and business leaders in Sherman Oaks Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
Bass said Caruso shouldn’t be allowed to cite lawyers and sealed depositions as reasons not to reveal the findings. The Times reported in September that Bass received the scholarship without directly applying to USC’s social work school.
